In the Beginning: Elemental Agency & Sovereignty

[One of my theories about the origin of the Gods. My answer to IYCHTK, and O My Father.]

Doctrine & Covenants 93

33 For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy;

34 And when separated, man cannot receive a fulness of joy.

35 The elements are the tabernacle of God; yea, man is the tabernacle of God, even temples; and whatsoever temple is defiled, God shall destroy that temple.

36 The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.

37 Light and truth forsake that evil one.

The Principle of Sovereignty. In a representative republic (such as the governmental structure of the United State of America) the People are the Sovereign–We the People. Sovereign, by definition, is “ultimate” power, or authority. The Sovereign, meaning the People, choose leaders to represent their interests.

In the case being illustrated, the Sovereign is the collective of eternal elements. (We could have a discussion on the Laws of Thermodynamics here, but I’ll just leave this link HERE). Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transferred or converted from one form to another. (Khan Academy, definition) Also, see HERE.

So, elements are indestructible–or, theocratically speaking, Eternal.

The Elements apparently were not experiencing joy, or, so they collectively reasoned. They understood the Eternal principle that in order to feel a fulness of joy (fulfilling the measure of their creation) they must be coupled with spirit matter.

There is spirit matter and there is elemental matter, apparently.

Doctrine & Covenants 131

There is no such thing as immaterial matter. All spirit is matter, but it is more fine or pure, and can only be discerned by purer eyes;

We cannot see it; but when our bodies are purified we shall see that it is all matter.

Spirit, therefore, is matter, or, spirit matter.

Definitionally:

Element | Each of more than one hundred substances that cannot be chemically interconverted or broken down into simpler substances and are primary constituents of matter. Each element is distinguished by its atomic number (i.e. the number of protons in the nuclei of its atoms). (Google search)

Matter | A definition of “matter” based on its physical and chemical structure is: matter is made up of atoms. Such atomic matter is also sometimes termed ordinary matter. As an example, deoxyribonucleic acid molecules (DNA) are matter under this definition because they are made of atoms. (Wikipedia)

Spirit | Each individual is a spirit child of Heavenly Father and existed as a spirit before this life on earth. During this life, the spirit of the individual is housed in a physical body, which was born of mortal parents.

The scriptures teach that at the time of physical death, the spirit does not die. It separates from the body and lives in the post-mortal spirit world. At the time of resurrection, the spirit is reunited with the body, “never to be divided; thus the whole becoming spiritual and immortal” (Alma 11:45). The Elements understood that because They are Eternal, they needed a means to perpetuate in a “state of joy.” (Maximizing Their creation.) Afterall, because there are a finite number of elements (according to the 1st Law of Thermodynamics) throughout the universe, Their numbers were “limited” in Their current state of existence to further organize. Chemicals (atoms), mainly. Floating around, acting, reacting, bonding, splitting—BOOOORING.

The method of diversified perpetuation chosen, was procreation. So, the Elements got together, organized themselves, and created two carbon-based humans. A man and a woman–A King, and a Queen! The King and Queen would further take matter, and with the Elements, organize (Heb: baurau) other carbon-based humans into a royal Family.

Priesthood power would be the authority by which they governed. Priesthood power is not “magic,” it is delegated power from the Sovereign. The Elements would allow (through the ability to choose, or agency) themselves to be organized through a process of commandment and accountability. If the King and Queen’s motive was for the betterment of all creation, then the Elements (the Sovereign) would subordinate their will to the King and Queen’s righteous wishes and commands (i.e. commandments).

(This is starting to sound a little like a Fairy Tale, but I assure you…fairies don’t really exist.)

The King and Queen would organize a perpetual Family—divine in nature. The “bodies” created contained within them the ability to procreate—coupling spirit and elements together. It takes a man and a woman to procreate, at least the way the Elements intended. Divided roles, with a unity in purpose (one flesh): to turn Elemental Matter into Spirit (which, we know is “finer” matter, than non-finer matter). To bring to pass the immortality and Eternal Lives of men and women.

LOVE & HONOR (Respect, or more accurately, reverence.)

Love and honor are the real power of Priesthood power. The King and Queen, under authority of the righteous Elements (Sovereign) further refined the perpetual plan—it evolved into what we now know as The Plan of Salvation, or The Plan of Happiness. It is THE plan that provides for the qualification of righteous “Royalty” to convert Elemental Matter (the Sovereign) into Gods and Goddesses, to “rule” and “reign” forever in a righteous Family, throughout the universe.

Elemental Matter still remains Sovereign in this grand Plan. This is illustrated by the fact that after being organized by the Gods, during many of the creative periods (books of Moses & Abraham), the Gods watched the elements until they were “good” or “obeyed.” Which begs the question: If God has ultimate sovereign power, why did the gods have to watch until the Elements had done what They were asked to do? And the simple answer: Love and honor!
