Holy Ghost #5: Take as a Guide

President Russell M Nelson taught, at the April 2018 General Conference of the Church, “Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory. But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.” (April 2018, Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives, Russell M Nelson)

One of my wife’s prized posessions left to her by her grandfather is a wooden three-legged footstool he made. It’s pretty rustic, but sturdy. The three-leg design provides the user with a structurally solid surface on which to place their feet. Kim remembers sitting on it often as a kid. (My first thought was that it might have been used as grandma’s time-out chair for little backsides.) This stool also provides a strong physical representation for an equally strong spiritual metaphor. (Testimony of the Three Witnesses, Intro to the Book of Mormon; D&C42:80; 2 Ne 11:3; D&C 6:28)

I tend to doodle in my scriptures, and I’m having a difficult time replacing my “brick” (large print quadriple combination) with just technology. Several individuals have asked me why I haven’t gone straight tech. My answer is: I’ll use my smart phone when the battery in my brick runs out. (Dad joke, I know.) Anyway…

One of the “legs” of the stool (using it as a metaphor) represents one of the 3 KEYS to NOT BEING DECEIVED (by the Adversary).

D&C 45:56 And at that day, when I shall come in my glory, shall the parable be fulfilled which I spake concerning the ten virgins.

57 For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived—verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day.

The leg of the LIVING WORD (aka on-going personal revelation), as well as the other two legs of the WRITTEN WORD (scriptures, and other inspired writings) and the SPOKEN WORD (latter-day prophets), constitute the three keys (or legs, take your pick) of spiritual stability.

In order to stay firm and steadfast (and stable) we must take the HOLY SPIRIT AS OUR GUIDE, for without him, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO SURVIVE SPIRITUALLY.

He’s a good guy to lean on–stably speaking.
